Let's Get Physicals!

Any freshmen, sophomores, or juniors planning on playing a sport next year should attend the Sports Clearance Night hosted by the Athletic Department on June 5 at 6 p.m. All athletes must have physicals before they can play in any high school sport. Doctors will be there to complete students’ physical exams and sign their medical forms. Clearance packets are in Admin and the athletic office and must be filled out and signed before June 5 along with a $30 check payable to Valley Center High School Athletics.

Blood drive:

Future Farmers of America (FFA) is holding its last blood drive on June 5 -- which, now that I think of it, is the same day as the athletic physical, so tell the doctor there that’s why you might look a little DRAINED! All donors must be at least 16 years old and will receive a free VIP access pass to the upcoming “Warped Tour” concert.

Back door year-round school?:

Do you remember how, in the olden days,  the new school year used start school in the middle of September? Sadly, but apparently necessarily, it's been slowly creeping up earlier and earlier. This coming year, prepare yourself to start school on August 25! We’re heading toward JULY, people! Than JUNE! Then we’ll be in two years of school at the SAME TIME! So, why is this happening? Should preschoolers be touring colleges? More about this later!

Here's something I betcha didn't know:

It’s no secret that VCHS drama classes have been drastically decreasing in enrollment the past three years or so. As a result, there has been quite a bit of speculation as to whether the drama classroom would indeed remain or be converted into something else. A weight room was a top contender.

Well, the “weight” is over! According to comments made by drama teacher John Ward at last week’s International Thespian Society induction ceremony, it will, in fact, become Jon Goodman's Digital Media classroom next year. Goodman now conducts his classes in a smaller room just off the library. Mr. Ward added that he is trying to get an after school drama class going for next year, but there are currently some conflicts he’s hoping to resolve. At the moment, the location of his new classroom is up in the air. My vote would be that Drama gets the identical classroom in the Maxine adjacent to Laralee Beck's choir room.
