An
invite from the Fallbrook Film Festival!
Last
week the Roadrunner featured a cool article about how the district's first ever
full-length feature film, "Mystery High," has been chosen as one of
three finalists in its category in the Fallbrook Film Festival. The last part
of the article was accidentally cut, so here's the rest of it:
According
to Program Director, Linda Mandrayar, "The Festival is a great opportunity
for filmmakers to showcase their works to a wider audience. The incredible
workshops we will be hosting should help to foster their talents. Filmmakers
will have the opportunity to meet and learn from some of Hollywood's most
talented professionals -- Adam McKay, the writer/director of Will Ferrell's
'Anchor Man,' 'Talladega Nights' and upcoming 'Step Brothers,' and Tom Del
Ruth, the multi award wining cinematographer best known for 'Stand By Me.' 'The
Breakfast Club,' 'Look Who's Talking' and 'The West Wing.' "
Mandrayar
continued, "We encourage all Valley Center High School students
interesting in making films to come to the Festival. We are going to have some
outstanding free events on Saturday Evening at the Art Campus." As
writer/director of “Mystery High,” I would love to see some VCTV faces in the
crowd!
The
three-day festival runs April 25-27. "Mystery High" will be shown in
its entirety (82 minutes) at 11 a.m., Sat. Apr. 26 at the JJ Purdy's in
Fallbrook. We’ll find out if it won Sunday, April 27th, at 4 p.m. at the
Fallbrook Art Center. More info at www.fallbrookfilmfestival.com,
www.carrfamily.com, or by calling (760) 731-2278.
Going,
going, GONE!
This
Saturday’s Jaguar Auction is an annual fundraiser held at VCHS in which school
clubs and generous people throughout our community collect and donate items to
sell in both live and silent auctions. Included in your ticket price will be
appetizers, beverages and live entertainment.
The
event will being at 6:00 p.m. Sat. April 5 in the VCHS Gym. Tickets are on sale
for $10 each. You can get them from practically any sports team, school club,
or at any school function. Everyone's selling them! But you’d better buy them
soon because we can only fit so many people in the gym!
The
unkindest cuts:
As
most of you are well aware, our district may be facing a 10% budget cut in the
coming year. If you are not happy about the proposed cuts, visit the VCPUSD
website at www.vcpusd.net. You can download prewritten letter templates to send
to the governor and our state legislators. The more letters sent the better!
Here's
something I betcha didn't know:
The
other day I noticed some weird hieroglyphic-looking symbols on senior Katie Washburn's
arm. When I asked her what they were she told me each picture was actually an
individual letter in the "Wingdings" computer font. If you've never
seen it, it looks like this (secret message alert): If you
can translate this, congratulations!
