Start Plannin’ and Askin’!

Hey girls, the Sadie Hawkins is comin’ up and you need to start plannin’ (the kind of evening you’d like to have) and askin’ (that special guy) ASAP before he gets snatched -- probably by your best friend (just kidding, I think)!

For those of you who don’t know, Sadie’s is an evening dance in which the girls get to ask out the guys and both dress up to a wacky predetermined theme. It’s not a formal, just a fun night out with friends. This year’s dance take place March 7, giving you only a few weeks to start the plannin’ and askin’.

If I may, here are some things you might want to keep in mind when you ask him:

1) Make sure he kinda already likes you so it’s not awkward for either of you.

2) Make sure he’s the kind of guy with whom you can have a lot of fun, so you’re not standing around bored/embarrassed/mad/depressed for the whole night.

3) If you decide to go as just friends, make sure that’s well established ahead of time.

4) When you ask him, try to setup a really cute situation -- something he’ll never forget.

5) Remember, a date is great, but not required! It can be just as much fun chilling with fellow chickies at Sadie’s. But do give it try, if possible because, thanks to 10 million years (give or take 10 years) of human development, there just aren’t that many opportunities for us girls to ask out the guys, who usually are expected to do most of the work. So girls, let’s give them a break and make this fun for them.

Four-day weekend:

This weekend we get off both Friday and the following Monday. If my calculus serves me correctly, that makes it a four day weekend! That’s more than enough time to go to Europe, then every Disneyland in the world, then clear your best friend of a crime for which he or she was falsely convicted. Whatever you do (if you go to Europe, take me!), stay safe and healthy and don’t catch this nasty cold that’s going around.

Here’s something I betcha didn’t know:

In addition to being a sports star and receiving a football scholarship to Colorado State University, VCHS senior Jason Klingerman also has a love for verse. That’s right. Jason will be one of the contestants in this year’s “Poetry Out Loud” competition taking place from 10 a.m. to noon, Feb. 19 at the Maxine Theater.

To get in shape, Jason performed several poems this past weekend in a coffee shop in Escondido. If he wins at our school, he’ll compete with several other schools in our region. If he wins there, he’ll go to Sacramento for the state competition, and if he wins there, he gets to go to Washington, D.C. for a week. And if he wins THERE ... he’ll win a $20,000 scholarship!

Best of luck to you Jason!
