Works in Progress

The “Works in Progress” dance concert, started last year by VCHS Dance teacher Tammy Merrick, looks like it might well become an annual tradition. “Works in Progress” features all Advanced Dance students and is performed in the Maxine Theater’s Black Box. The concert is designed to allow students to showcase their original creations in a very informal atmosphere with no elaborate costumes or makeup and minimal lighting. Of the 20 or so dances that will be performed this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, only five or six will make it to the much more elaborate Annual Dance Concert taking place in April. The concert is completely free. Any money donated goes directly toward helping the Dance Program put on an even bigger and better Annual Dance Concert. Come watch these ladies (and a couple very brave guys) dance!

Blood drive:

Wednesday (the day this column comes out), the FFA will hold its second blood drive of the year.  If you miss it don’t worry, there are more coming up. Donating blood is a great way to help another person whose life might literally be saved because of your precious gift. Check here for more information on future blood drives or talk to Danielle Bauer in room 403.

Improv is back!

This year’s improv team is back and ready for primetime with the help of coach/teachers Angie Engelbert and John Ward. This year’s team captain is sophomore Wyatt Reno. The team will hold their first match next Tuesday night in the VCHS Drama room. The students will compete against teachers Linda Saffiote, Jon Goodman, Nicole McGinnis, Jeff Tuttle, Bart Schwarz and many others. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. and costs $5 for students and non-students without an ASB card and $4 for those with one. All staff members get in free (what a gyp!). Don’t miss out on this hilarious event!

Here’s something I betcha didn’t know:

Many VCHS students are (rightly!) fans of the hit TV show, "The Office." In fact many of them -- OK ... us! -- have watched so many episodes it’s starting to jeopardize our already questionable grip on reality! For example, in one episode earlier this season, three members of the cast created a group known as "The Finer Things Club" in which they discussed art and culture in an effort to broaden their pallets. And now our own school has officially created a "Finer Things Club" which has already met twice in Michelle Inigo’s classroom. At the gatherings they served tea and shortbread cookies -- and they were yummy! The club’s creators, Kyle Krainock and William Hay, told me are very pleased with how the club is shaping up. “Talk to either of us if you’re interested in joining,” said Willie. Just tell ‘em you already know how to stick out your little finger while drinking tea and you’re IN!
