Sammi Carr's The Jaguars’ Spot column for Wed., Dec. 19, 2007

2007 in review!

Since this is the last column I'll be writing for 2007, let’s take a look back on one heck of a wonderful year!

January:

The musical theater class performed "Peter Pan" in the Maxine and the cast members actually got to fly! Mr. McCowan even won the fundraiser and got to fly as well.

February:

Senior Allison Evans directed Neil Simon's comedy, "Barefoot in the Park" starring Torre Price and David Sichmeller.

We held our first Miss “Guy” Valley Center, called Mr. Universe. Johnathan Kertz won after competing in categories like best walk, questioning and talent.

March:

This year’s Sadie Hawkins dance had a sports theme.

The League of Garage Bands (LGB) hosted VC's first ever Battle of the Bands. Arcanic took first place.

VCTV hosted our school's first ever filmmaking competition, called F3.

Springfest was a huge success!

April:

This year’s Carnival was our gift for raising our school's average scores on the CSTs above 25 points. Unfortunately it was a little rainy that day, but that didn't stop us from having a blast!

Air Bands and Jag Idol were showcased at the Maxine and we discovered lots of new talent in our fellow students.

The annual Dance Concert was the biggest and best it's ever been!

May (this was a busy month!):

Prom was held at the House of Blues.

The VC/Pauma school district's first-ever full-length original feature film, “Mystery High,” was shown at the Maxine.

Drama Club had it's Induction ceremony for International Thespian Society.

VCTV presented their first original movie, “The Blank Canvas,” on the same night they hosted their annual VCTV awards.

Tammy Merrick's dance program held their first ever Alumni Dance Concert.

June:

We held the longstanding Powder Puff game. This time the juniors kicked some senior glutinous maximus for a change.

Yearbooks were distributed.

VCHS was named a Distinguished School of California.

September:

School started at the end of August and High School Musical immediately held auditions and began rehearsals

Club Rush featured more clubs than ever!

David Sichmeller began his term as ASB president.

October:

Homecoming, set with the theme of 50s thru 80s, was sooooo much fun!

We lost one of our very own, Kas Saunders, to a tragic car accident.

VCHS served as a vital evacuation center, led by our own principal, Ron McCowan, during this month’s terrible wildfire.

November:

The Drama Department produced "Bang, Bang You're Dead" for the seventh year in a row. The play was directed by John Ward and was said by many to be the best production to the show yet!

Drama Club went to Role About. Alex Herbert placed first in the cold reading category.

December:

We made it to the CIF Football Championship and won for our third year out of four!

All caught up! Don’t forget, Winterfest is coming up this Friday along with our school toy drive. Please bring unwrapped NEW toys for those in need by Friday!
