How
Fame Begins
The League of Garage Bands (better known on campus as LGB) was started this year by VCHS juniors Cameron Izadi and Evan Stumpges, with a little help their club advisor Jason Poole. Last year Cameron and Evan’s band, Arcanic, was in a battle of the bands competition down in San Diego. The guys told me they were frustrated at how difficult it was for them to get permission to put up flyers around our high school. As a result, the duo created LGB to help promote all local student bands, not just their own. I guess a lot of people liked the idea because now there are eight bands in the club and Cameron and Evan say they have more who are interested in joining. The club’s original purpose of advertising local bands has grown to provide opportunities for bands to play gigs around the community.
The guys say LGB has been working with the administration, ASB and the Maxine Theater to put on the valley’s first-ever Battle of the Bands, taking place Mar. 30 from 6 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. at the Maxine–although they probably wish they could go ‘til morning!
Admission is only 8 bucks for VCHS students and $10 for non-students. Bring some extra money, though, so you can buy food and stuff out in the lobby between each band’s performance. Cameron and Evan promise there will be more food than an army of roadies can eat! Let’s Get Personal:
Hey, remember those FABULOUS senior personal pages in last year’s yearbook? I’m not kidding; they really WERE great–almost like MySpace internet profiles in book form. What’ll think of next! If you seniors haven't gotten yours in yet, you only have until March 23. All you need are a couple pictures of yourself, maybe a couple with friends, and a little personal message you want to send out to the people you love. Once you have everything ready take it to Mr. Conrad in room 504. And don’t worry about not being a graphic designer, because the yearbook staff will design and create your page for you. Better hurry; you don’t want to miss out on this!
Here’s Something I Betcha Didn’t Know:
The starting trumpet has been blown for this year's Jag Wars T-shirt Design Contest. The only requirements are that you use three colors or less (they can’t all be white!) and your finished artwork must fit on a standard-sized shirt. The winning T-shirt will be awarded to all first place teams in upcoming Jag Wars sports competitions. Also, he or she will receive 10 free T-shirts and, of course, the all-important bragging rights. For more information see any PE teacher on campus.
