Jags pounce on 2010

Hey Jags! It’s great to be back at school this week seeing all your smiling faces! We’ve got snow in the air and some remnants of that great Christmas feeling, OK, that ‘snow’ part … maybe not, but the Christmas spirit is still there for sure.

I hope you all had a great holiday break, I know I did. I heard about lots of kids who went to mountains or rivers and it sounded like a blast (a little more about that below). I went to Disneyland for a few days and enjoyed Matterhorn Mountain and Splash Mountain, er, River. Sort of.

Anyway, we’re all back in the saddle, now, and we’ve got some work to do!

          Three weeks!

That’s all the time we have until report cards are sent home. For some kids this will be earning them their parents’ respect and trust … others, not so much. So, Jags, let’s power through this last stretch and get great report cards, then relax a little with the new semester.

Have you heard? ‘Grease’ is the word!

Coming up soon -- January 14 -- we have the VCHS annual musical. Shows in the past have included “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” “Peter Pan,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and many others. This year’s play will be “Grease”!

The kids have been rehearsing this show for months and it all comes down to a few days at the Maxine Theater. Francisco Moncada, who has a lead in the show, says he is really looking forward to the seeing that curtain open. “This has been my favorite production with VCHS by far!” he said. “I really like everyone in the show. This show will blow you away!”

Morgan Boberg plays another lead, the part of Sandy. She told me she is really excited about this play and its cast, which she said is like a family to her. “This show has great music, great characters, and overall a great cast. Come to the show everyone!”

The show’s debut is Thursday, January 14, and plays through the entire weekend. That’s not too far away, so make sure to get your tickets right now for the best seats. If money’s a little tight right now, you can still buy them at the door.

Tell me about it!:

Jack Sloman, a Junior at VCHS, told me about his winter vacation. He and VCHS Key Club members and VC Kiwanis Club members went way up to Pasadena to decorate the Kiwanis float for the Rose Bowl Parade. He said it was a really wild experience.

“Once we arrived we were let into the workshop where they stored 24 towering floats.” Jack’s float was actually spent the rest of the day cutting off petals from flowers to be used on other floats. He said it really showed that something as big as the Rose Bowl Parade is a communal process. “I had a great time and really enjoyed bonding with my fellow Key Club members,” he said.
